Meet Joe: Connecting with people, building confidence, finding a way forward
I joined First People Housing CIC as a Support and Development Worker because I enjoy helping people recognise their potential and take positive steps forward. For me, good support starts with getting to know someone, building trust and creating a space where they feel comfortable being themselves. Sometimes, a conversation, a little encouragement or simply taking the time to listen can make a real difference.
My degree in Sociology explored the relationship between race and music, looking at how music connects people, shapes identity and reflects our experiences. It strengthened my belief that everyone has their own story, and that understanding someone starts with listening rather than making assumptions.
I bring that approach to my work: an open mind, a friendly manner and a willingness to walk alongside people as they build confidence and independence. I enjoy making connections, sharing a laugh and supporting people to work towards goals that matter to them, at a pace that feels right for them.
Outside work, music is a huge part of my life. I’m passionate about DJing, discovering new sounds and finding the right track for the right moment. You’ll also find me following football and supporting MK Dons — whether that demonstrates loyalty, optimism or questionable judgement, I’ll leave you to decide!
I’m delighted to be part of First People Housing and look forward to learning from colleagues and clients alike, celebrating progress and helping people see what’s possible for their future.
